Exploring Resilience, Transformation, and the Power to Break Cycles

My research centers on the question that has guided much of my life’s work:
How do people transform their lives after growing up in dysfunction — and what allows them to break those cycles for good?

This page is a growing collection of my academic work, published research, and upcoming publications that explore the intersection of family systems, resilience, identity, and healing.

Doctoral Project/Dissertation

Breaking Generational Cycles of Dysfunction: A Phenomenological Investigation of Transformation and Resilience

This qualitative study explores how individuals who experienced family dysfunction in childhood develop resilience and self-awareness that allow them to create healthier lives and relationships as adults.

It draws from theories such as:

  • Family Systems Theory – how family dynamics shape identity and behavior

  • Ecological Systems Theory – how context and environment influence development

  • The Resilience Portfolio Model (RPM) – how protective factors promote thriving after adversity

Accepting My Roots:
The Whole Story

This book is a deeply personal narrative that weaves together my own journey with the stories of clients who helped shape my understanding of healing. It’s not a guidebook or manual — it’s an honest exploration of what happens when we stop running from our past and start listening to what it’s been trying to teach us.

This book is for every cycle breaker who’s ever wondered if accepting their roots might be the key to finally growing beyond them.

Reconstructing the Self After Dysfunctional Roots

Reconstructing the Self After Dysfunctional Roots is a psychology-based guide for anyone determined to grow beyond the patterns they inherited. Drawing from my dissertation research and two decades of clinical practice, this book explores what it takes to move from awareness to intentional transformation. It blends science, stories, and truth-telling insight to help readers understand their roots, break destructive cycles, and build an identity grounded in resilience and authenticity.

Dysfunctional Roots
